Underfloor heating, quietly luxurious.

Quiet, even, luxurious heat — works beautifully with heat pumps. We design the manifold layout, pipe spacing and zoning, and install to a finish your tiler and flooring fitter will thank us for.

The basics

A gentler kind of warmth.

Wet underfloor heating runs a low-temperature flow — typically 35–45°C — through serpentine pipework laid into the floor screed or above joists. The whole floor becomes a radiator, warming the room evenly from the ground up.

It's the most comfortable form of heating most people ever experience. Silent. No radiators on the walls. Works with every floor finish: tile, engineered wood, stone, even high-quality laminate and carpet with the right specification.

Critically, underfloor heating runs at the same flow temperatures a heat pump loves. Pair the two and you get a system that's efficient, quiet, and comfortable — the best residential setup money can buy.

When it's the right call

Three scenarios where underfloor heating is usually the right answer.

01 Extensions

New build, kitchen extension or loft conversion.

Concrete slab or joisted upper floor — either way, we design and install the pipework before the screed or floorboards go down. Cleanest, easiest, most cost-effective scenario.

02 Retrofit with heat pump

Whole-ground-floor retrofit as part of a heat pump install.

Low-profile overlay systems add just 15–18mm to floor height. Combined with a heat pump, the whole-home running cost drops significantly — and the comfort level goes up.

03 Bathrooms and wet rooms

Single-room installs under tile.

Electric mats under tile for small bathrooms where a wet system doesn't justify the plumbing. Warm floor in the morning, no fuss.

Why Thermalwerk for underfloor

The difference between a brilliant install and a mediocre one is mostly detail you won't see.

Pipe spacing calculated, not guessed.

Too far apart, you get hot stripes and cold stripes underfoot. Too close, you waste pipe and create flow problems. We work out the right spacing per room based on heat loss and floor covering.

Manifold sized for the system.

Zone valves, flow meters, and actuators specified properly. You get room-by-room control, balanced flow, and a manifold cupboard that a future engineer can actually service.

Built for your floor finish.

Tile, stone, engineered wood, laminate, carpet — each has a different thermal resistance. We calculate flow temperatures accordingly. Not a system that fights your floor.

Pressure-tested, documented.

Every loop pressure-tested to 6 bar before screed goes down, and left under test pressure during the screeding. Test certificate in your handover pack. No surprises three years later.

Customer stories

What homeowners tell us after the install is finished.

Underfloor heating across the ground floor with a heat pump. The detail in their design brief was genuinely impressive. No surprises on site.

Hampstead · Underfloor and heat pump

Replaced our old combi with a heat pump. Quiet, much cheaper to run, and the team left the plant room tidier than they found it.

Dulwich · Heat pump

We had three quotes for a new Viessmann boiler. Thermalwerk was not the cheapest, but they were the only ones who actually explained the sizing.
